Road Ready Guide

About This Site

This site is an independent, informational guide to learning to drive and getting a driving licence in Ghana. It is not a driving school: it does not offer lessons, tests, licences or bookings, and it is not a government service.

Independence

This site is not affiliated with any business that previously used this domain name, or with any similarly named driving school, instructor or company. It is also not affiliated with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the National Road Safety Authority, the Ghana Police Service or any other public body. If you are looking for a particular school, this is not its website, and nothing here should be read as a statement by it.

What the site covers

The guides explain, in plain language, how the licensing process works in Ghana: the learner's permit, driver training, the tests, fees, renewal, replacement, foreign licence conversion and licence classes. They also cover road rules and fines under the 2026 regulations, and practical points about driving in Accra, from busy junctions to the rainy season. The practical driving pages are written with Accra in mind, while most of the licensing material applies nationwide.

Where the information comes from

  • DVLA's public website, including its services page and its online fee portal.
  • News reports from Ghanaian outlets and the Ghana News Agency on the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519), with the publication month given in the text.
  • Statements by industry bodies such as the Ghana National Association of Driving Schools, attributed where used.
  • Road crash figures released by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, as reported in the press.
  • Long-term climate averages for background on the rainy season.

We do not invent statistics, quote people who did not say what is attributed to them, or present figures from a news summary as if they came from the law itself. When sources disagree, we say so.

Please verify before you act

The content is general information and not legal, financial or professional advice. Fees, forms, office arrangements and rules change, sometimes without much notice. Before you pay money, travel to an office or rely on a specific requirement, confirm it with DVLA or another official source. Each page carries dates for figures that are likely to change, so you can see how recent they are.

Corrections

If you spot something that is wrong or out of date, please tell us through the contact page. We will check it against official sources and update the relevant guide. We cannot assist with individual applications, DVLA accounts or disputes.
